St. Louis, then shocked the baseball world by taking 102 to win the Phillies in the National League Division Series with a heart-pounding game 1-0 to win 5 on Friday, as Chris Carpenter threw a three-hit shutout is outduel Roy Halladay.

"I understand the struggles we've had during any part of the regular season, but look at this team and the creator, so we have a good day line-up while driving out there," said Lance Berkman. "We have a variety of appetizers, which are able to shut people down, and reformed in a way and a solid bullpen. And we're playing well. It 'a good combination."

The Cardinals, who are back in this cycle for the 10th time in team history and first since 2006 when he won the World Series, was dragged in the series 2-1, but beat Roy Oswalt and Halladay in the last two matches.

"Whenever you have Roy or any of these guys on the other hand, is like" carp "and [Adam] Wainwright, for us," said Albert Pujols. "You know those guys are going to keep you in the game. They can be one of the inning, an inning that difficult, but then do not make too many mistakes. And, of course, Carp did not do too much today."

St. Louis, of course, leads to three time MVP Pujols (.299, 37 HR, 99 RBI) and the acceleration Berkman (.301, 31 HR, 94 RBI). Pujols was brilliant against the Phils, hitting 0.350, while Berkman homered first inning of Game 1 vs. Halladay, but does not do much else, and there were only two other hit series.

The cards can be a major boost with the return of outfielder Matt Holliday, whose hand injury has made available to pinch hit for most of the division series. Holliday, however, began the last two games and be ready to go against the Brewers.

Manager Tony La Russa, however, likes to mix and match and have the contributions from almost everyone in the series against the Phillies, players like Ryan Theriot unknown, Skip Schumaker and David Freese has come through time and time time.

It may not be Schumaker, who suffered an injury in game five oblique and could miss this series.

La Russa, who has not found his game 1 starter will be, but the Smart Money is a 25-year-old left-hander Jaime Garcia, who started brilliantly against the Phillies in the NLDS, before disclosing pinch-hit three- Run Homer.

Garcia had perhaps his best start in all the 2011 season against the back of Milwaukee in May when he threw nine innings of shutout ball, so only two hits and one walk, striking eight. The Brewers, however, got it for seven runs (three earned) in one start in August.

"Other than, Brewers Phillies," said Garcia. "They're two different teams with a different approach, but I have confidence in, and I think will be a great challenge and a great crowd."

Kyle Lohse, who started Game 1 NLDS, should get the 2 ball game, but Carpenter returns to full rest in Game 3 starts at home. Edwin Jackson would then have the ball in Game 4

Carpenter would of course be in line for a potential Game 7 start.

Like St. Louis, Milwaukee needed all five games to ease past the Arizona Diamondbacks and did so in thrilling fashion Friday when Nyjer Morgan hit a single winner of a point in the 10th end to give the Brewers their first playoff series victory in 29 years.

"There were so many of us great success throughout the year," Morgan said Ryan Braun, who has one year alter ego, as a filling for Tony. "He likes this time. It was an incredible match, an incredible feeling to win this thing."
