Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson became more caddies Ft Worth and both went on to become big in the game. Hogan won the Colonial Invitational in 1946 and won four times in his last victory here in 1959.
There have been some great champions in the invitation earlier Colonial besides Ben Hogan - a list that includes Sam Snead, Cary Middlecoff, Julius Boros, Al Geiberger, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson to name a few notables. Steve Stricker won here in 2009 and Zach Johnson will be defended here in 2011.
