20-minute ceremony will be unveiled to a crowd of 60,000 strong at Eden Park and an estimated television audience of millions around the world before the opening match between hosts New Zealand and the Pacific rivals Tonga.

"We're really explosive in the path," said Head of Choreography Shonah McCullagh. "I am very excited about what we do. We will have a big show."

The ceremony will feature a mixture of traditional culture and contemporary New Zealand as well as a strong international flavor to represent the position of the Tournament as the third largest sporting event in the world.

New Zealand musician and composer Victoria Kelly is the Music Director for the ceremony and has written a value that will be revealed for the first time on September 9. "The scale of this production exceeds anything I could imagine when I started working on it," he said.

Costume designer Jane Holland has been busy preparing thousands of costumes with a small team including a number of design students. In explaining the requirements for the design, he said "I think about how things would appear from a distance for spectators, but also because it's television, how they would appear too close."
Robin Rawstorne is headed the design team responsible for developing and building sets and props are needed for the event. "This is an experience, really intense consolidation that is expected to showcase to the world some amazing things that make up New Zealand" he said.

The ceremony will feature more than 1,000 players and hundreds of volunteer crew backstage.

"One month to go now and prepare to be very good. We've got fantastic players who are very enthusiastic volunteers" he said. Shona McCullagh. "They've really been fun to work with."

Fans go to the opening game are advised to leave early and allow plenty of time to get to the stadium ready to start the 07:30 ceremony. Limited tickets still available for the Opening Ceremony and opening match.

For they will not match, Auckland city is putting itself on the opening night celebration, including performances at the edge of the Brothers Finn and Dave Dobbyn in Queens Wharf Fanzone, fireworks spectacular and the game live on big screens.
